Designers (and why we work with many of them)
Out of Medium started as a what-if: could a boundary-defying group of people work with great designers from around the world to make the coolest band merch, without actually being a band? It took two years (and a pandemic), but here we are. We’ve got the merch, we just never settled on a band name. Bear with us.

Why many designers, not one?
Because different minds make better work. We don’t chase a single “house style.” We invite voices we admire, give them room, and let the work lead. No micromanaging, no creativity throttled by brand decks, no “move that line three pixels left.”
We like skulls, cats, beer, pizza, coffee. And, yeah, we are nerds. And we 100% have these traits in common with the designers we work with!
When we commission art, we don’t add limits. We choose the right person, give a clear North Star, and then get out of the way. The result: pieces that feel alive, not approved-by-committee.
How we collaborate
- Creative freedom: clear brief, wide runway. We hire designers for their voice and aesthetics.
- Respect and credit: designers are named on product pages and campaign assets. We are REALLY proud to have their pieces here!
- Purpose-first production: designs land on 100% organic, fair trade garments.
This is not some fast fashion shop our designers are dealing with, and they know it, and we are thankful that everyone is tagging alone for the journey.

Where this idea came from
We started out working with bands. Too often, the artist would get briefed, then bossed around until the soul leaked out. We wanted the opposite: a brand where the brief is a spark, not a cage. If we trust the designer's taste enough to reach out to them, we trust them enough to leave them alone.
